Students and Education

LAUSD offers several resources for teachers, students, families, and staff during the COVID-19 crisis. For a full list of services, or call the District’s hotline numbers; For families, please call (213) 443-1300. For employees, please call (213) 241-2700.

Counselors and mental health professionals are available to LAUSD students and families. To connect with a counselor, please call (213) 241-3840. The hotline is open weekdays from 6 AM. to 6 PM.

The Los Angeles Public Library has millions of books, audiobooks, DVDs and other resources available for public use –– and is hosting daily storytimes. Further resources like ADA services, homeless services, and technical assistance can also be accessed through the department’s website.

The Angeleno Connectivity Trust provides free internet access to thousands of K-12 children in need, with a focus on  students experiencing homelessness, those in foster care, youth with disabilities, and youth who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of school due to lack of connectivity. 

The program is a partnership with the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles with support from T-Mobile's Project 10Million. The City of Los Angeles is helping to make sure everyone can connect to the Internet during this crisis. The City has partnered with the California Emerging Technology Fund and EveryoneOn to help Angelenos find options for low-cost internet services, gain access to computers, and find digital literacy services. The City’s GetConnected site also provides additional resources from the Los Angeles Public Library, participating telecommunications providers,  and local organizations providing Citywide support. 

YouthSource Centers provide support services including mentoring, work readiness, tutoring, computer training, college prep, and more.

PBS SoCal and KCET are offering broadcast programming and accompanying digital resources that adhere to California’s state curriculum requirements. Please visit their website for more information.

Safety and Support

This program allows local residents to gain access to more space for recreation activities in their neighborhoods while protecting Angelenos from overcrowding on sidewalks and promoting social distancing. Click here to learn more and apply for a Slow Street in your neighborhood.

The Veteran Crisis Line provides confidential 24/7 support to veterans, service members, National Guard and National Reserve personnel, and the friends and family of military personnel. Connect with the Veterans Crisis Line to reach caring, qualified responders with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Many of them are Veterans themselves. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals. To reach the Lifeline, please call 1-800-273-8255 or visit their website.

If you are witnessing a crime in progress, or experiencing another non-life threatening situation that requires police response, dial 1-877-ASK-LAPD. A full list of non-emergency numbers and assistance in different languages is listed on the LAPD website. If you require immediate emergency services please call 911.

The outbreak of COVID-19 impacts each person’s mental health in different ways. No matter how you’re feeling, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health has supportive services available. Testing and Health

The COVID-19 vaccine is free for everyone. For more information and to find a vaccination site near you, please visit http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona2019/vaccine/hcwsignup/.

Open enrollment is available for all California residents in need of health insurance. Learn more at CoveredCA.com.

Flu vaccines are widely available across Los Angeles. To locate a flu vaccine near you, call your doctor, go to a local pharmacy, or visit VaccineFinder.org. You also can receive a flu vaccination at L.A. County Public Health Clinic Community Clinics. For more information on the flu, visit the County of Los Angeles Public Health Flu Season website.

The L.A. County Department of Public Social Services offers assistance with free or low-cost health care for those who qualify. Click here to apply for Medi-Cal.

L.A. County Department of Public Health teams, along with hundreds of L.A. City workers, are working as contact tracers to help identify people who have come in contact with COVID-19 and limit the spread of this virus. Contact tracers can also help connect you to resources if you’ve tested positive or been in contact with someone with the virus.

The County and the City are closely tracking information and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State of California’s COVID-19 website provides statewide information, including vaccine distribution phases, regional stay at home orders, and information on benefits, family leave, small business support, and other important resources.

Food and Supplies

CalFresh, California's food stamps (SNAP) program, provides food assistance to eligible low-income households. To learn more about eligibility and apply for this program, visit the L.A. County Department of Public Social Services' website.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides federal grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. StreetsLA is taking critical steps to ensure the health and safety of farmers markets while keeping essential services in our city moving. Workers and Renters

Local renter protections are in effect in the city of Los Angeles. For additional information about these protections for renters and how to apply for rent and utility assistance, visit https://housing.lacity.org/highlights/renter-protections.

CalWORKs is a public assistance program that provides cash aid, food, medical care and other services to low-income eligible families with children. To learn more about eligibility and to apply, visit the L.A. County Department of Public Social Services CalWORKs DPSS website.

The City of Los Angeles is partnering with L.A. County’s Department of Consumer and Business Affairs and its Bank On Los Angeles County initiative led by the Center for Financial Empowerment to connect you to resources to open a safe and affordable bank account. Learn more here.

EWDD offers free job training, placement and resume assistance for Angelenos who lost their jobs due to COVID-19. Free one-on-one consultations are available to guide small businesses to COVID-19 economic recovery resources. For more information visit their website or call 213-744-7130.

If you have become unemployed or partially unemployed, you may file an unemployment claim. Use the information on this website to access unemployment-related services and details.

Emergency Renter Protections are still in place to support residential renters who have been impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis. Tenants facing eviction can get additional information and free legal counseling at StayHousedLA.org

The LA Jobs Portal helps  unemployed and underemployed Angelenos find and apply to job opportunities across all industries.

Businesses

L.A. Al Fresco aims to help local businesses reopen safely, and allow customers and employees to maintain physical distancing, by temporarily relaxing rules that regulate outdoor dining, including dining on sidewalks, private property, and streets. L.A. Al Fresco continues to take applications for expanded outdoor dining areas on private property, the sidewalk, and in-street. Furthermore, LADOT continues to install parklets and street closures. LA Optimized provides individualized tech support to help small businesses adapt to the digital marketplace. The program helps businesses create or optimize websites, increase online sales and leads, create or optimize their business listings, and access branding and creative assets. It is also offering the LA Optimized Accelerator Academy, a monthly webinar series to help small businesses grow and market in the digital marketplace. The State's Small Business Finance Center helps businesses create and retain jobs, and encourages investment in low- to moderate-income communities. The SBFC has several programs to support small business, including a Disaster Relief Loan Guarantee, CA Rebuilding Fund, Jump Start Loan Program and more. Click here for more information.

The Los Angeles Regional COVID-19 Recovery Fund was a City-County-Philanthropy grant program for micro-entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits in increments of $5,000 and $15,000.This program assisted 3,005 entities in the City with funding to help stabilize operations during the pandemic. Logistics Victory LA (LOVLA) is a City of Los Angeles resource for linking suppliers of COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment with businesses, organizations, healthcare facilities, and other entities in need of supplies. Originally intended to provide PPE (N95 masks, gloves, etc.) to first responders, hospitals, and other healthcare organizations, LoVLA recently expanded its program to all sectors of our economy in need of PPE. Any interested organization should visit www.lovla.org.

DWP continues to not shut off water or power service due to non-payment and not charge late fees for utility bills. For inquiries about payment plans and other DWP services, please call DWP’s Customer Service staff at 1-800-342-5397 or make requests online.

The 311 Call Center provides various options to connect to a wide variety of non-emergency City services and general City information. Many requests can be made online.

211 LA is the central source for information and referrals for all health and human services in LA County. The line is open 24/7.
